Vientiane (VNA) ♈– A cremation ceremony was held in Vientiane on December 20 for Most Venerable Pra Maha Phong Samaleuk, President of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation, who passed away on October 7 at the age of 101.

Present at the ceremony were top leaders of the Lao Party, State, Government and National Assembly, representatives from Buddhist associations in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and China and tens of thousands of Buddhist monks, nuns, and followers across Laos.
Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council, led a Vietnamese delegation to the event.
Deputy Prime Minister Phankham Viphavan highlighted the significant contributions of the deceased to Laos’s revolutionary cause and building, strengthening national solidarity, and developing the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation. He said over the past 88 years, Most Venerable Pra Maha Phong Samaleuk took the lead in protecting, preserving and promoting the country’s traditional customs and Buddhism, while making remarkable contributions to the external relations between Laos and other countries.-VNA
