Lao students in Dien Bien celebrate traditional festival

DienBien (VNA) – The teacher training college of the northern mountಞainousprovince of Dien Bien on April 16 hosted a celebration of the traditional New Year Festival ofLaos – Bunpimay – for Lao students in the province.
Bunpimay festival is observed on April 14-16annually to pray for good weather, health, abundant harvests and prosperity. At the event, Lao and Vietnamese studentssplashed water and tied threads on each other, which are traditional rituals ofBunpimay to wish for peace and a happy New Year. Participants also joined atraditional dance of Laos. Pham Hong Thai, a representative of the college, saidthe Bunpimay celebration is organised annually for Lao students. In addition,many sport events are frequently held to foster ties between Vietnam-Laos andthe two nations’ students in particular. In accordance with the cooperation agreement ofthe Dien Bien’s People Committee with three Lao northern provinces of Oudomxay,Luang Prabang and Phongsaly in 2003, each year, Dien Bien welcomes 90 Laostudents to study in the province. In 2017-2018, the province is hosting nearly450 Lao students.-VNA
