Lao NA Chairwoman visits Lam Dong province

Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou has commended bilateral cooperation between Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Lam Dong and the Lao provinces of Champasak and Bolykhamxay in recent years.

Lam Dong (VNA)– Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou has commended bilateralcooperation between Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Lam Dong and theLao provinces of Champasak and Bolykhamxay in recent years.

At a meeting with LamDong’s officials on March 7, the Lao leader asked the Vietnamese locality toexpand its collaboration with other Lao provinces, especially those with similarnatural conditions.

She also proposed LamDong step up affiliation with Lao localities in other areas relating toactivities of the People’s Council such as meetings with voters, settlement ofpetitions and complaints, tourism and high-tech agricultural development and ITapplication in administrative reform.

Pany Yathotou alsocalled on Lam Dong province to pay more attention to vocational guidance forLao students who are studying at the Da Lat University, focusing on practicalsectors.

The NA Chairwoman andother Lao legislators raised questions about Lam Dong’s experiences and solutionsto achieve marked achievements in urban planning, tourism, high-techagriculture and poverty reduction.

At the working session,the Lao leader and Lam Dong’s officials expressed their hope for strongercooperative ties between the two countries as well as their localities.

Lam Dong, which has a population of 1.3 million of 43 ethnic groups, completed17 socio-economic criteria, with the per capita gross regional domestic product(GRDP) reaching 60 million VND (2,580 USD) in 2018, reported Doan Van Viet,Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

With the household-levelmultidimensional poverty rate at 2.91 percent, Lam Dong is among the 20provinces across the country with the lowest poverty rate.

Last year, Lam Dong welcomed 6.5 million tourists, he said, noting that it istaking the lead nationwide in high-tech agricultural development.
Da Lat is expected tobecome the first provincially-run city of the country developed into a smartcity, he said.

During their stay inLam Dong on March 6-7, Pany Yathotou and her entourage toured some farmingmodels which are applying high technologies, along with tourism models in the province.-VNA
