Lao leaders pleased at Laos-Vietnam cooperation

Leaders of Laos’ Party and National Assembly have hailed the outcomes of the talks between the two chairmen of the two sub-committees of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee, which just took place in the Lao capital Vientiane on December 9.

At a meeting onDecember 10 with the Chairman of the Vietnam-Lao CooperationSub-committee, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Lao PartyGeneral Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone said he is delightedat the growing ties between the two parties and states. He stressed theneed to maintain regular exchanges of high-ranking delegations as wellas the sharing of experience and mutual support between the two parties,especially in preparation for the upcoming National Congress of eachparty.

The Lao President also lauded efforts of thecooperation sub-committees and ministries, localities and businesscircles of both sides in realising bilateral cooperation agreements andtreaties.

He highly valued Vietnam’s commitments toincrease ODA to Laos by 30 percent in 2015 and the fact that Vietnamcontinues to be one of the leading foreign investors in Laos.

Meanwhile, Chairwoman of Laos’ National Assembly Pany Zathotousuggested at her meeting with Deputy PM Phuc that the legislatures ofboth countries should further promote collaboration in both bilateraland multilateral frameworks.

She confirmed that shewill attend the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union thatVietnam will host in March next year.

She alsopledged that the Lao NA will work closely with Vietnam ’s NA inmonitoring joint projects, suggesting that Vietnam assist Laos inagricultural development.

Deputy PM Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always give top priority to further fostering the special and loyal ties with Laos.

He congratulated Laos on the successful organisation of the eighthCambodia-Vietnam-Laos Development Triangle Summit in November and the 35th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly inSeptember.

Also on December 12, Deputy PM Phuc alsovisited a number of senior Lao officials and held a working session withthe Association of Vietnamese investors in Laos.-VNA
