Lai Chau (VNA) – The third Open Putaleng Paragliding Tournament took off in Tam Duongdistrict, the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau, on April 14.

The event, which ispart of the 2022 Lai Chau Culture - Tourism Week, attracted the participationof 100 domestic and foreign fliers.

Participants took offfrom Si Thau Chai village at 1,400m above sea level and land at the stadium in TamDuong district.

Speaking at theopening ceremony, Tong Thanh Hai, Vice Chairman of the provincial People'sCommittee, said the third Open Putaleng Paragliding Tournament reflects thedevelopment of the sport in the province, contributing to turning it into anational paragliding destination.

The tournament is alsoan opportunity for the locality to promote Lai Chau's nature, culture andpeople to domestic and foreign tourists, thereby calling for investors andcreating leverage for the province's tourism development as well, he said.

It offers a chance forparagliders to exchange and contribute to further promoting thedevelopment of paragliding in Vietnam and enhancing integration with SoutheastAsia and the world in terms of sporting activities.

Mount Putaleng islocated northwest of Mount Fansipan in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. At3,143 metres, it is Vietnam’s second highest peak after Fansipan. It has becomea popular spot among domestic and foreign extreme sports lovers in recentyears./.
