La Gan wind power project to benefit over 7 million households

Hanoi (VNA) – The La Gan wind power project,with an estimated capacity of nearly 3.5 GW, is being developed by CopenhagenInfrastructure Partners (CIP), Asiapetro and Novasia off the coast of the southcentral province of Binh Thuan. 

It is expected to generate electricity for over 7 millionhouseholds each year.

According to the BVG Associates, the project will createover 45,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs and contribute over 4.4 billion USDto the economy during the course of the project.

The total rate of locally-made components will account forabout 45 percent of the supply chain of the project.

As the project will be carried out for many years, more opportunitieswill be given to Vietnamese contractors to join the supply chain.

Since the signing of a memorandum of understanding with theprovincial People’s Committee in July 2020, the project has achievedsignificant progress, including preparing for a field survey and approvingsurvey license.

With a total investment of 10 billion USD, it is also one ofthe first large-scale offshore wind power projects in Vietnam./.
