Korean pianist excited about Vietnam debut

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Korean pianist Heejin An will perform together with the HanoiSymphony Orchestra at the ‘Autumn Concert’ in Hanoi on October 12.

Theone-night-only performance is part of a special programme organised by the Vietnam NationalAcademy of Music (VNAM) to bring famous foreign artists to perform in Vietnam.

When theartist received the invitation from the VNAM, she couldn’t hide her excitement.

“All ofmy friends who have been to Vietnam to travel or perform speak aboutthe country with a special affection. Although I’ve heard a lot about thiswonderful country, I've never had the chance to visit it. So, alongside theconcert, I’d like to have the chance to explore this charming city and itsrich culture,” said the 29-year-old pianist.  
After herdebut in 2000 when she was only 10 years old, Heejin has won numerousprizes at piano competitions in the Republic of Korea.  

In 2006, sheenrolled at the Juilliard School – a private performing arts conservatoryin New York City – where she completed her masters.

Thepianist has also sharpened her technique by performing at prestigiousvenues such as Carnegie Weill, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Artsin New York, and the Mary Galvin Recital Hall in Chicago.

Heejinhas also performed at major music festivals including the BowdoinInternational Music Festival in the US, the Banff Mountain Music Festival inCanada, and the Gijon International Piano Festival in Spain.

Duringthe ‘Autumn Concert’ in Hanoi, the guest artist will perform ConcertoNo. 2 by S. Rachmaninoff with the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra underthe baton of experienced Vietnamese conductor Tran Vuong Thach.

Theconcert’s repertoire will also include Symphony No. 7.

Conductor Thach, who is 58 years old, started playing the violinwhen he was only 10.

Aftergraduating from the HCM City Conservatory of Music in 1984, he became aviolin lecturer at the conservatory’s Symphony Faculty. In 1990, he completedhis BA in conducting.

From 1990to 1996, he horned his skills at the Royal Conservatory of Liège in Belgium andthe Maastricht Academy of Music in the Netherlands.

Theconcert will take place at the VNAM Concert Hall, 77 Hao Nam Street./.

Vietnam take silver in AFF U19 Final

Despite strong home support and high expectations, Vietnam were unable to overcome the defending champions, who secured their third consecutive win over Vietnam in a regional final, following previous victories in 2014 and 2023.
