Kon Tum completes substandard housing eradication two months ahead of schedule

Kon Tum (VNA) ♚– The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum has completed the construction and repair of 2,740 houses for disadvantaged families, fulfilling its target two months earlier than the deadline set by the Prime Minister, local authorities announced on June 24.
At a review conference, the provincial steering committee for the eradication of temporary and dilapidated houses reported that the project covered both new builds (2,220 homes) and repairs (520 homes), prioritising families with meritorious service, the poor and near-poor, and other vulnerable households.
However, a recent re-assessment revealed an additional 1,312 households in need of support, including 1,034 requiring new homes and 278 needing repairs, das a result of storms and natural disasters. The province currently lacks sufficient funds to begin work on these newly identified homes.

The province has proposed using over 13 billion VND (496,990 USD) (saved from its 2024 budget) to support newly identified households and has requested central funding for homes for revolutionary contributors and martyr families.
To date, over 194 billion VND has been mobilised for the programme, including 59 billion VND from central sources, more than 102 billion VND from local donations and social contributions, and 5.2 billion VND earmarked for families with meritorious service. Local communities also contributed over 182,000 workdays to support construction efforts./.
With strong support from local authorities, businesses, organisations, and residents, the province has successfully built or repaired 10,707 homes for disadvantaged households, including war veterans, families of martyrs, ethnic minority people, and low-income residents.
According to the steering committee’s report, a total of 7,064 local households require support, comprising 5,831 in need of new construction and 1,233 repairs, with an estimated total cost of nearly 387 billion VND (approximately 14.9 million USD).
For households of people with meritorious service and relatives of fallen soldiers, the province supported the construction and renovation of 2,374 houses, achieving 100% of the set target, 342 newly built and 2,032 renovated.
Vietnam has achieved many remarkable results, such as the smoking rate among adults decreased from 23.8% in 2010 to 20.8% in 2021. The rate of exposure to secondhand smoke decreased from 73.1% to 45.6%.
More than half a century after the war, millions of unexploded bombs and mines remain buried underground, threatening lives and hindering development in many localities.
According to the indictment, during the execution of various projects and procurement packages across the provinces of Vinh Phuc, Quang Ngai, and Phu Tho, Phuc Son Group's Chairman and General Director Nguyen Van Hau, who is also Chairman of the Thang Long investment, trade and real estate JSC, either personally committed, directed subordinates, or worked with partner entities to carry out unlawful activities related bidding and accounting procedures.
According to Ben Tre authorities, the province will continue to strengthen IUU fishing prevention by enforcing central directives and enhancing public awareness and compliance among local fishing communities.
Trial operations at the new public administrative service centres in Thanh Khe and Ngu Hanh Son wards show that the reception and processing of citizens' documents on the new wards’ data system have been smoothly handled by the staff, enabling quick settlement and facilitating easy access to public services for the people.
