Kieu Ky village in Hanoi’s Gia Lam district is renowned for its unique craft of gold leaf making, where just 3.75 grams of gold are beaten into 980 thin leaves that can cover over one square meter—a skill unmatched by modern industry.

Kieu Ky village, approximately 15km from Hanoi’s city center, is renowned for its 400-year-old tradition of inlaying gold and silver leaves.

Many may know how gilded products are made, but few know that there’s a tiny material used for such sophisticated artworks, which can be only made in an outskirt village of Hanoi.

Local authorities and people of Kieu Ky village in Gia Lam district, Hanoi have been exerting efforts to preserve the traditional craft of producing ultra thin gold leaves for gilding ancient statues.

Vietnamese antiquities and art treasures will be auctioned on August 19 in Hanoi, marking the first time a professional auction company authorised to sell the country’s antiquities.
