Kien Giang strives to complete all projects for APEC in June 2027

Kien Giang (VNA) – The southern province of Kien Giang strives to complete all projects that serve the 2027 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Phu Quoc city by the end of June 2027, said Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan.

Some projects are expected earlier in next June, he added.

To meet the deadline, the province assigned its Department of Construction to submit the general planning of the island city of Phu Quoc, zoning plans, and detailed plans for approval from July 1.

The department was asked to coordinate with investors and agencies in advising the provincial People's Committee to issue emergency construction orders for projects identified for investment according to urgent criteria; organise appraisal of projects under management, submit to the Provincial People's Committee for approval of feasibility study reports according to current regulations. In addition, it was asked to proactively synthesise materials used for projects, review sources, production capacity of construction materials, transportation plans, and storing areas at wharves in the mainland and the island to ensure supply for the construction projects.

The province assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to make a detailed plan for site clearance and resettlement, ensuring progress. It is also responsible for the inventory and conversion of forest purposes; preparing materials and minerals to implement projects and works in Phu Quoc city.

According to the Department of Construction, the province is implementing 21 projects worth more than 137 trillion VND (nearly 5.26 billion USD) on Phu Quoc island to serve the 2027 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. They include ten public investment projects with an investment of 20 trillion VND, 11 investment projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) and business investment methods.

In preparation for APEC, Phu Quoc is accelerating investments in air, sea, and land transportation infrastructure. The city plans to develop an international airport meeting the 4E standard, featuring upgrades to the capacity of the terminal, cargo terminal, VIP terminal, aircraft parking aprons, and runway.

💛 The city will also carry out urban beautification and underground infrastructure work in existing urban centres, including An Thoi and Duong Dong. Further infrastructure improvements will include investments in reservoirs, water treatment plants, the renovation of the Duong Dong River, and the construction of waste and wastewater treatment facilities./.
