Japan's prefecture supports Vietnamese workers, students

The Japanese prefecture of Nagasaki has set up an office to assist Vietnamese in the locality with housing and employment, Vice Governor Ken Hirata has said.

Tokyo (VNA) -
The Japanese prefecture of Nagasaki has set up an office to assist Vietnamesein the locality with housing and employment, Vice Governor Ken Hirata has said.

He told theVietnam News Agency (VNA) that through its website, the prefecture has providedupdates in Vietnamese regarding natural disasters as well as local landscapesand dining.

TheNagasaki-Vietnam Association will also help Vietnamese in issues relating tolanguage, employment, and other difficulties they face in daily life, accordingto the Vice Governor.

Nagasaki isworking to attract more Vietnamese students, he said, citing the establishmentof the Goto Japanese Language School exclusively for Vietnamese students.  

Many have beenemployed by local companies after their studies in Nagasaki, according toHirata.

He highlighted thetime-honoured relations between Nagasaki and Vietnamese localities which, hesaid, dated back to the 17th century.

In October 2019, theJapanese prefecture and the central province of Quang Nam signed a memorandum of understanding onpersonnel cooperation. Apartfrom admitting Vietnamese trainees and workers, Nagasaki has partnered withVietnamese universities in training nurses.

The prefecture hashelped train Vietnamese athletes competing at the Tokyo Olympics next year.

Some 2,700Vietnamese are living and studying in Nagasaki, with 180 being students, makingit the largest foreign community in the prefecture.

Three Nagasakiuniversities have set up twinning relationship with Vietnamese counterparts./.
