Japanese water education programme launched in Ben Tre

The Japanese water education programme named “Mizuiku – I love clean water” was launched in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre on March 22.

BenTre (VNA) ♏– The Japanese water education programme named “Mizuiku – Ilove clean water” was launched in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre on March22.

In2017, the programme will be carried out in 30 elementary schools across thecountry, providing training courses for teachers and students on the role ofwater and methods to protect and use water efficiently. The “Mizuiku - I love clean water" programmewas initiated by the Suntory Holding Ltd of Japan in 2004. Vietnam was thefirst country other than Japan to implement this project, beginning in 2015.The programme focused its activities on educating children on the role of wateron the planet and raising their awareness on the importance of water resourcesand water hygiene in daily life. Speakingat the launching ceremony, Nguyen Long Hai, Secretary of the the Ho Chi Minh CommunistYouth Union Central Committee, said that the programme has contributed toenvironment protection and climate change adaption over the past two years. Heexpressed his hope that it will raise children’s awareness about the importanceof water resources. After two years, the programme has organised morethan 400 classes on the subject of water and 16 festivals with theparticipation of over 14,000 schoolchildren. It also funded the installation ofeight water filter systems and build new toilets at 16 elementary schools.-VNA
