Japanese, Indian PMs pledge cooperation for free, open Asia-Pacific

Hanoi (VNA) – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Indiancounterpart Narendra Modi on November 14 agreed to join hands to set up a freeand open order of the Asia Pacific based on respect of internationalregulations.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of the 31st ASEAN Summit inManila, the Philippines.
Abe affirmed that he wants to elevate Japan-India ties to the highest level.
Abe and Modi reached consensus on tight collaboration to deal with regionalthreats like missile and nuclear programmes of the Democratic People’s Republicof Korea (DPRK) by carrying out the UN’s sanctions.
They agreed to continue discussions on India’s purchase of Japanese US-2amphibious aircraft used in search and rescue activities. Railway developmentwas on the table as well.
At the meeting, Abe said that Japan will simplify visa granting procedures forIndian nationals from January 1, 2018.
Previously, diplomatic officials of Japan, India, Australia and the US onNovember 12 discussed a free and open regional order and they agreed to work togetherbased on common values. Earlier, Abe said the four countries will establish a security zone forAsia-Pacific.-VNA
