Japanese-funded anti-human trafficking hotline enters second phase
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MoLISA) joined the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to launch the second phase (2019-2021) of a JICA-funded hotline project on curbing human trafficking in Vietnam on December 14.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Labour, Invalids,and Social Affairs (MoLISA) joined the Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) to launch the second phase (2019-2021) of a JICA-funded hotline projecton curbing human trafficking in Vietnam on December 14.
Since 2012, with financial and technical support from JICA,the MoLISA developed hotline 1800 1567, which previously supplied childprotection consultation services.
To date, the hotline has been changed to 111, and tworegional operation centres have been established in the central city of Da Nangand the Mekong Delta province of An Giang. Information and service exchangeshave been maintained between the north and northern central region, the southcentral and Central Highlands region, and the southeast and Mekong Delta region.
The second phase of the project aims at setting up anational hotline and pushing for trans-border cooperation with neighbouringcountries in combating human trafficking.
Between October 2013 and June 2018, the hotline receivedclose to 13,000 calls, of which over 9,000 gave information and 3,500 soughtconsultation.
According to Dinh Van Trinh, deputy head of the anti-human traffickingoffice under the Ministry of Public Security, Vietnam has seen an average of400 human trafficking cases each year, involving around 1,000 victims and 600traffickers. Ninety percent of the victims are women and girls, aged between 15and 30. –VNA
The National Assembly’s Judicial Committee discussed the implementation of anti-human trafficking regulations between 2012 and 2017 at its ongoing 10th plenary session in Hanoi on August 23.
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the International Organisation for Migration held a workshop in Hanoi on September 11 to review policies and legal regulations on assistance for returnee victims of trafficking.

The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.

The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
