Japan supports Vietnam in deployment of sapper team No 1 to join UNISFA
Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), on December 29 hosted a reception for a group of experts from the Japanese Ministry of Defence who is on a working visit to Vietnam to assist the country in the deployment of sapper team No 1 to join the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Abyei (UNISFA).

At the event, Tan highly valued the initial results achieved in the meeting between the Japanese expertdelegation and the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations as well asrelated agencies. Accordingly, the two sides have basically agreed on thedetails of contents, methods, and working programmes and discussed the classification and packing of equipment of for sapper team No. 1, ensuringit follows the plan and has good quality, he said.
He held that this reflected the closeand thoughtful coordination of the two sides, the professionalism andresponsibility of the Japanese experts as well as the very serious preparationof the sapper team in particular and Vietnam's Ministry of National Defence ingeneral.
Previously, the experts from the Japanese Ministry of Defenceand the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations conducted an assessmentof the actual workload and requirements relating to equipment packaging. Theyalso exchange professional skills in order to improve the capacity of the sapperteam during its mission at UNISFA.
