Japan proposes to share supply chain data with ASEAN

Tokyo (VNA)♓ – According to Japan’s Nikkei web, the country will propose sharing supply chain data with ASEAN member states, aspart of the measures to strengthen economic ties with the region.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) hasjoined in the discussions, which also cover environmental protection andskills development, as Japan and ASEAN mark their 50th year of cooperation. One goal is to put in place a system where informationabout parts inventories, production capacity and supply chain disruption riskscan be shared among Japanese and ASEAN companies in the automotive, electronicsand other industries. Retailers and other companies could also participatein the data sharing platform, which would make it possible to exchangeinformation on efforts to cut carbon dioxide emissions and protect human rightsas well. A panel will identify 100 examples of data sharing andpropose rules for data management. It includes officials from the ministry and theJapan Association of Corporate Executives, or Keizai Doyukai, and will compile aJapan-ASEAN economic vision to be announced soon. A formal decision on the measures will be made at theJapan-ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting in August. The proposals will also include initiatives insustainability, joint research between universities and companies, and humancapital. Since the 2000s, the ASEAN bloc has achieved rapideconomic growth while Japan has stagnated. The combined gross domestic productof ASEAN countries is expected to surpass that of Japan in 2030./.
