Japanese ForeignMinister Takeaki Matsumoto and Lao Deputy Prime Minister and ForeignMinister Thongloun Sisoulith exchanged a diplomatic note on theassistance package in Tokyo on August 2.

The Japaneseauthorities said that the airport would be expanded to timely serve theAsia – Europe Meeting hosted by Laos by 2012.

Meanwhile, the 1,500 km expressway will link Laos with three countriesof the Great Mekong Sub-region including Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam,as part of the East - West Economic Corridor Development project.

Earlier, Sisoulith visited Notori city in Miyagi prefecture, one oflocalities that were seriously devastated by the March 11 earthquake andtsunami and donated 320,000 USD collected by Lao citizens to victims ofthe disasters./.
