Binh Duong (VNA) - International standard Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees were presented to 43 students who have successfully completed programmes offered by the Vietnam-Germany University (VGU).

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga and Hessen State Minister for Science and Arts of Germany Boris Rhein attended the VGU’s graduation ceremony held in the southern province of Binh Duong on November 4.

The degrees were granted by VGU partners in Germany, in the fields of Finance and Accounting (FA), Electricity Engineering and Information Technology (EEIT), Sustainable Urban Development (SUD), Business Information Systems (BIS), Computational Engineering (CompEng) and Mechanics and Sensor Systems Technology (MSST).

Those students were trained under the new model university project, developed by Vietnamese Government together with the support from the World Bank to catalyse higher education reform in Vietnam. After Master’s and Bachelor’s courses, they are proficient in both English and German.

At the ceremony, VGU Principal Jurgen Mallon highlighted that the university is building close relations with Vietnamese and German enterprises to create apprentice and job opportunities for the students.

Most of the graduates have found seats in multinational corporations as well as foreign organisations in Vietnam and European countries, he said, adding that some students won scholarships to further their study in the EU member states.

On this occasion, scholarships worth 1.2 million USD, sourced from the university budget, the World Bank, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Hinrichs fund and many others businesses were given to disadvantaged students.

The university, built at total cost of 200 million USD, has provided 11 training programmes for nearly 1,200 students in the past seven years.

It is one of the first new-model public education establishments in Vietnam. It was founded in 2008 on an area of 50.5 ha in Binh Duong province under a cooperation agreement between Vietnam and the German Federal State of Hessen. It is a highlight in the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership.

It has set a target to raise the number ꦗof students to 5,000 by 2020 and 12,000 ten years later.-VNA
