Jakarta (VNA) 💛- Indonesia's president-elect Prabowo Subianto has secured a majority at the House of Representatives after the NasDem party announced it was joining his coalition.

The NasDem party, which accounts for about 10% of parliament seats, announced late on August 15 that it will support Prabowo’s incoming administration.

ღ Nasdem chief Surya Paloh said that his decision to join Prabowo's coalition will foster a "calmer and more optimistic" atmosphere and ease the work of the incoming administration. The move will give the Prabowo government control over the House, boosting its stake from 43% to 52% out of 580 seats.

The parliamentary majority is expected to smooth the legislative process, including the approval of the 2025 budget that outgoing President Joko Widodo was scheduled to announce on August 16. As planned, Prabowo, and vice-president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka will be sworn into office on October 20. Speaking after a meeting with the Nasdem chief on August 15, Prabowo welcomed the party’s joining the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM), affirming that the parties cooperate to face future challenges and that unity is the key to a nation's success./.
