Jakarta (VNA)🌌 - A researcher at Indonesia’s Sumatera Institute of Technology has discovered a compound in the mulberry plant (Morus shalun) that shows potential in treating cervical cancer, according to local media.

Dr. Rahmat Kurniawan, a chemistry lecturer at the university, said the compound, Kuwanon J, was identified through biotransformation techniques using plant, fungal, and bacterial cultures. Lab tests have indicated its cytotoxic effects on cervical cancer cells.
He also noted that the compound originates from unique phenolic compounds in mulberry, which are common in tropical and subtropical regions.
