Indonesian President visits India to boost economic-trade ties

Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrived in New Delhi on December 12 to begin his State-level visit to India, the national news agency Antara reported.

Jakarta (VNA) –Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrived in New Delhi on December 12 to beginhis State-level visit to India, the national news agency Antara reported.

This is the first trip to India by theIndonesian President since he took office in 2014.

During the two-day visit, president Widodo willhold bilateral meetings with the host country’s PM Narenda Modi and PresidentPranab Mukhrjee. He will also meet with 20 executive directors of majorenterprises in India.

In addition, the Indonesian President willdiscuss with Indian leaders measures to boost investment cooperation,especially in producing materials for the pharmaceutical industry.

India is Indonesia’s largest trade partner inSouth Asia and fourth largest in the world. Bilateral trade reached 14.45billion USD in 2015.

Indonesia intends to diversify its commoditiesexported to India rather than leaning on two main products of crude palm oil(CPO) and coal. 

Indonesia may export interior furniture,pharmaceutical materials and other goods to this market.
