Indonesian media spotlight President Phuc’s visit

Jakarta (VNA) – Dozensof Indonesia’s newspapers have featured President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s December 21-23visit to the Southeast Asian nation, focusing on the outcomes of the talks betweenthe two State leaders.

The website of the IndonesiaPresidential Palace said that during ꦡa bilateral meeting on December 22, Pr꧑esidentJoko Widodo and his Vietnamese counterpart discussed a range of measures toenhance strategic partnership bilaterally and regionally.

Onthe occasion, Widodo hailed the Vietnamese Government for its trust on Indonesiancompanies. He wished that several problems faced by Indonesian investors wouldbe dealt with to facilitate new projects in the near future.

PresidentPhuc, for his part, agreed with the host that in order to overcome challenges,the two nations need to strengthen political trust and economic cooperation.

Meanwhile,the official website of the Indonesian President’s Secretariat said that at ameeting following the State-level welcome ceremony, Widodo underlined Indonesia’scommitment to continue reinforcing bilateral strategic partnership and calledon Vietnam to strengthen ASEAN.

Indonesiannews agency Antara, for its part, said duringthe joint press conference with President Phuc on December 22, Widodo announcedthat the two nations had completed negotiations on delimitation of theexclusive economic zone (EEZ) after 12 years of talks.

President Phuc also affirmed that Vietnam fully supports thetheme of Indonesia's 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship Year "ASEAN Matters:Epicentrum of Growth", and emphasised that the meeting between the twoleaders is a driving force for Vietnam and Indonesia to cooperate for thebenefit of their people.

According to the CNN Indonesia television, theVietnamese leader said the two countries have agreed to define the boundaryof𓆏 the EEZ in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law ofthe Sea (UNCLOS). In addition to the EEZ, the two countries also signed threememoranda of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in energy and mineralresources, fi🎶ghting terrorism, and combating drug trafficking.

Apart from the three MoU, Widodo also hoped that a bilateralagreement on fisheries and elimination of illegal, unreported and undocumentedfishing will be completed, said the newswire Okezone

The same day, theSolo Pos newspaper said the Indonesian President expects to launch a new directflight between Da Nang and Denpasar, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta.He also pro♔posed resuming direct flights between the two countries’ economicand tourism hubs./.
