Indonesia upholds ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific

Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia believes that the ASEAN Outlook on theIndo-Pacific (AOIP) can become the regulatory foundation of the internationalcommunity, including the superpowers, amid the outbreak of geopolitical issuesin the region, Special Advisor to the Indonesian Foreign Minister on RegionalDiplomacy Ngurah Sanjaya said on March 13.

Speaking at an online event, Ngurah said that many countrieshave shown their support for AOIP, including the establishment of cooperationto create a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

He emphasised the need for ASEAN to be able to lead and be a driving force of all Indo-Pacific initiatives.

Sharing the view, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hournexpressed his belief that superpowers will remain their support for the bloc incarrying out AOIP principles.

According to him, these principles promote inclusiveness andopenness of the international community by emphasising economic and tradecooperation./.
