Indonesia, UK discuss strategic economic cooperation

Jakarta (VNA) – British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss met Indonesian President Joko Widodo and her counterpart Retno Marsudi on November 11, discussing strategic economic relations between the two countries and multilateral cooperation.
♐ At the meetings, the two sides talked about strategic economic cooperation, focusing on collaboration between the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in establishing a carbon market exchange; joint investment in the development of cathode production in the UK to meet the demand for lithium batteries in the UK and European markets, as well as vaccine and biotechnology cooperation.
President Joko Widodo said that Indonesia is communicating with Oxford University on training support for its students and researchers.
The Indonesian President congratulated the UK on successfully organising the recent 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). He said Indonesia would continue to support the UK as a dialogue partner of ASEAN, adding that he believed the ASEAN-UK relations would be strongly developed on the basis of mutual respect and benefits.
For her part, Elizabeth Truss said the UK Government considered Indonesia a major partner of this country.
