Jakarta (VNA)🏅 – Indonesia’s Ministry of Human Rights (HAM) on February 12 announced plans to create a Reconciliation and Peace Village (Kampung Redam) that promotes human rights values in regions affected by social conflict.

Minister of HAM Natalius Pigai said that the development of such village demonstrates the government's commitment to fostering peace and justice, particularly in conflict-affected areas.
He said in Indonesia, numerous regions or villages have been affected by social conflicts in various forms, including those that have been resolved and those that may recur, ranging from small to large scale. Pigai elaborated that Kampung Redam’s development will begin with identifying regions significantly impacted by large-scale conflicts, such as Ambon, Aceh, Lampung, and Poso, as well as areas in Kalimantan and Papua.

Authorities will intervene in social conflicts between gangs at the village level to create a model village that prioritises reconciliation and promotes a spirit of peace.

Kampung Redam will be led by local communities representing social groups involved in conflicts. It will feature an information system for monitoring conditions and will incorporate aspects of human rights values.

༺ A monument dedicated to reconciliation and peace will also be erected to serve as a reminder to the community to prioritise peace and social justice and prevent the recurrence of past conflicts./.
