Indonesia to build 188 vessels to support sea toll road

Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation has unveiled the country’s government plans to build 188 ships between 2015-2017 to support the “ sea toll road” as part of President's maritime axis programme.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation has unveiled the country’s government plans to build 188 ships between 2015-2017 to support the “ sea toll road” as part of President Joko Widodo’s maritime axis programme. The project includes the construction and deployment of 68 patrol vessels, 5 marine disaster prevention ships (MDPS) and 15 vessels for navigation purposes with tonnage of 500 tonnes to 200 tonnes and a number container ships and ports.
Director General for Indonesian Sea Transportation Bobby R. Mamahit said this is the largest ship development initiative the country has ever had and the procurement process for the vessels would be carried out by auction. He added that the contract should be completed by October 2015.
He said the investment requirements for the project have reached 11.8 trillion Indonesian Rupiah (885.5 million USD), which will be allocated between 2015 and 2017. The Indonesian Government has also plannedto build some international ports on major islands, including Sumatra, Kalimanta, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi and Papua with a view to boosting exports-VNA
