Indonesia strengthens export of organic products

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade is striving to push the export of organic products in the international market to be able to make its contribution towards the increase in the non-oil and gas export target at 11 percent in 2018.

Jakarta (VNA)– Indonesia’s Ministryof Trade is striving to push the export of organic products in theinternational market to be able to make its contribution towards the increasein the non-oil and gas export target at 11 percent in 2018.

Director ofExport Cooperation Development from the ministry Marolop Nainggolan stated thatIndonesian organic products have a large potential to compete in theinternational market, and that they need to be sustained by an appropriatemarketing strategy.

The productswith the highest export potential include rice, coffee, honey, chocolate,cashews, coconut sugar, coconut oil, shrimps, tea and vanilla.

The largepotential of organic products in Indonesia is marked by the increasing numberof farmers managing organic farming from year to year, the increase in organicproduce stores in supermarkets and restaurants, and the rise in the number oforganizations dealing with organic lifestyle, as well as the establishment ofvarious Organic Certification Institutions (LSOs).

Based on therecords from the ministry, the world’s organic products market grew rapidly inthe last 10 years. By 2018, the market is expected to reach 161.5 billion USDwith a growth rate of 15 percent per year. In 2016, the market was worth 93.1billion USD.

The five majorproducing countries include India, Uganda, Mexico, Ethiopia, and thePhilippines, while the three main market countries of organic products are theUnited States, Germany, and France.

Somedeveloping countries have started to promote organic products because theybenefit producers and consumers.-VNA
