Jakarta (VNA)♛ – Indonesia spent 5.5 trillion IDR (336 million USD) on the resettlement project in its new capital Nusantara in the first five months of this year.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani said on June 27 that the government has only used up 13.7% of this year’s new capital budget, which amounts to 40 trillion IDR. About 3.4 trillion IDR of the already spent money went to infrastructure works, including the state palace complex. Indonesia plans to put no more than 36.7 trillion IDR for Nusantara’s infrastructure needs throughout this year.
The government recorded 2 trillion IDR in non-infrastructure expenditure for this project so far this year. The money was for the relocation planning and the operational activities of the city’s authority body. The government’s data shows Indonesia has spent approximately 60% of the allocated funding for the project’s non-infrastructure needs this year.
In 2022, the annual government spending for the project reached 5.5 trillion IDR, and it eventually soared to 27 trillion IDR in 2023. Indonesia rushes to meet the deadline of hosting the Independence Day ceremony at the new capital of Nusantara in August./.
