Indonesia: Pre-employment card to create better workforce

Jakarta (VNA) –Indonesia is getting ready to launch the Pre-Employment Card in April as aneffort to create better human resources, according to Presidential Chief ofStaff Moeldoko.

The government will launchthe card starting from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi and West JavaProvince, Moeldoko said in Jakarta on February 18.

The regions had the largestnumber of job seekers, he said.

The government will getfeedback, then make improvements and expand the programme to other regions, headded.

Moeldokosaid distribution of the card would not be withheld, pendingapproval of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, but it would require apresidential regulation. Thepresidential regulation is expected to be issued this February.

He admittedthat the card would not guarantee that all job seekers in the regions, reachingtwo million, could be absorbed, as the government could not control the market. However, the government willensure that job seekers have the capability and skills required by the businessworld, the official said.

The government has targeted to provide job training totwo million beneficiaries of the Pre-Employment Card worth 3 – 7million IDR (250 – 600 USD) each, with a total budget of 10 trillion IDR in 2020.

They will also receive certificates after completingthe training and pass the various test mechanisms. These certificates ofcompetency can be used by job seekers, who receive pre-employment card programsto obtain jobs according to their competencies./.
