Indonesia plans massive reforestation

The Indonesian Government is planning a massive reforestation programme in various regions, targeting 6.5 million hectares of land within the forest areas, according to Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Environment Hashim Djojohadadikusumo.

Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Government is planning a massive reforestation programme in various regions, targeting 6.5 million hectares of land within the forest areas, according to Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Environment Hashim Djojohadadikusumo.

He said on December 10 that to balance the food estate programme, reforestation will be carried out in critical areas, adding the forest development program will support ecosystem balance and minimise the impact of natural disasters while supporting the food production sector in the region.

Meanwhile, Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni said the reforestation process will be conducted through an intercropping system, including planting several plant that can benefit the surrounding community.
