Indonesia joins RoK’s fighter jet development plan
Indonesia has inked a 1.3 billion USD agreement with the Republic of Korea to jointly develop the RoK’s next generation fighter jets, announced Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) on January 7.

Accordingly, the Indonesian Ministry of Defence will invest about 1.6 trillion Korean Won (1.3 billion USD) in the Korean Fighter Experimental (KF-X) programme.
The programme is aimed at creating new fighter jets to replace the aged fleet of F4-F5 fighters imported from the US.
KAI said the investment from Indonesia will account for about one fifth of the total cost of the project and 100 Indonesian workers will take part in the project. Indonesia will be given one prototype plane and gain access to technical data and information involving the project.
The Korean military plans to put the new fighter jets into operation by 2025./.
