Jakarta (VNA) –
Indonesia’s nationalvolcanology agency issued a warning on May 7 to all flights passing over the MountSinabung volcano in Karo district in North Sumatra province.

The notification was set at amber, the secondlevel of danger warning.

Planes passing through the pathway around MountSinabung volcano in Sumatra island have been told to exercise caution asvolcanic ashes from the volcano may endanger flight, the national volcanologyagency said on May 7.

Mount Sinabung erupted earlier in the day,spewing a column of ashes up to 2,000 m high, the agency said, adding that theash smoke has spread to the east and southeast of Indonesia.

The eruption also caused ash to rain down in areason the flank of the volcano, spokesman of the agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

The agency had also warned people not to get anycloser than 3-7 km from the volcano.

Mount Sinabung is 2,475 m high above thesea level. It became active again in 2010 after dormancy of over four decades.In its eruption in 2014, 16 people were killed and thousands of others were displaced.–VNA
