Indonesia increases electricity supply for Asian Games 2018

Jakarta (VNA) – 💎Indonesia’s State-owned electricity company (PLN) is planningto increase electricity supply to meet power demand during the 2018 Asian Games(ASIAD).

PLNGeneral Manager Ikhsan Asaad said one of the efforts is to raise capacity of thesubstation in Senayan in South Jakarta to the target of 8,000 kV. Thesubstation will become one of main sources of power supply to several venues ofASIAD 18 at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Jakarta capital city andrelated activities of the event. Todate, the progress in the development of electricity infrastructure to serveASIAD 18 has reached 90 percent. The PLN has allocated 71 billion IDR (5.5million USD) to enhance electricity supply and eight generators with capacityof 1,250 kVA are ready to use. ASIAD18 will be held in Indonesia’s two cities of Jakarta and Palembang in SouthSumatra from August 18 to September 2. Head of the Asiad 2018 organising boardLinda Wahyudi said that the construction of infrastructure for the event havebeen completed in late 2017. Therenovation of the Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta has reached nearly 90 percent ofcompletion. Meanwhile, in Palembang, the work to upgrade and develop venues hasbeen on track, with the building of Jakabaring sport city and other facilitiesreaching 92 percent. Testevents of ASIAD 18 will be carried out on February 10 and 18 for archery,athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, martial arts, taekwondo,volleyball and weightlifting.-VNA
