Indonesia improves human resources for Fourth Industrial Revolution

Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian government has paid attention toimproving the human resources’ quality to fit requirements of the FourthIndustrial Revolution.

In its article “Education institutions told to develop human resources forIndustry 4.0”, Jakarta Post said that the government has urged educationinstitutions to cooperate in developing manpower for the Fourth IndustrialRevolution.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati called for an upgrade in the currenteducational system, and said that the government had allocated 20 percent ofits total budget this year for education, equal to 35.4 billion USD.

“Improving education is a part of PresidentJoko Widodo’s plan to invest in human resources”, Jakarta Post quoted MulyaniIndrawati as saying. She suggested the country require an early start toeducation to prepare its human resources sooner as part of the Fourth IndustrialRevolution.

Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri said that the government will focus onimproving the competence of skilled workers by offering them certificationprogrammes. The efforts include bettering boosting access to and furtherdeveloping the quality of vocational training and internship programmes withthe support of the state budget. The government has planned to cooperate withthe private sector to provide independent internship programmes.

At a recent seminar focused on manpower in Industry 4.0 inJakarta, Vice President Jusuf Kalla urged every university graduate to be awareof the changes in the economic system and the fast development of technology.

He was quoted as saying: “An economy that grows as quickly as thetechnology means a lot of jobs will vanish while new roles emerge. These newfields are what educational institutions should focus on for their students”.

One school that has joined the trend of improving its educationsystem is Prasetiya Mulya University, which introduced an applied science,technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program in 2017 to preparestudents for the challenges of Industry 4.0, the article wrote. -VNA
