The country aims toleverage its waters, including fresh water, brackish water and seawater, to the fullest extent to enlarge the production of aquaculture,said Slamet Soebjakto, Director General of Aquaculture Farming atIndonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

Aquacultureis deemed as a key industry in Indonesia, he highlighted, adding thatthe country is striving to achieve an 18 million tonne seafood yield.

Asa member of the Network of Aquaculture Centres in the Asia-Pacific(NACA) since 2005, the Indonesian government can expand cooperation withother countries in the region. It can also receive updated informationabout fish and shrimp diseases, helping it to take preventive measuresin a prompt and effective manner.-VNA
