Indonesia foils terrorist attack plot

Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesian police announcedon February 22 that they have thwarted a terrorist plan to attack police andseize a large volume of weapons in Yogyakarta province.

National police spokesman General Dedi Prasetyo saidthe police arrested one plotter named Abu Hilwa, alias Andalus, and are huntingother suspects.

Hilwa was arrested on February 14 in Temanggung of centralJava province and is alleged to be a member of Jemaah Anshorut Daulah (JAD),which is an allegiance of the IS terrorist group in Syria.

He admitted that he is plotting a terrorist act togetherwith three others to attack police personnel in Yogyakarta.

The spokesman said Hilwa along with his terroristfellows also intended to conduct shootings at police personnel. Investigationis underway.

Hilwa was deported from the Philippines after hejoined a military exercise along with Adi Jihadi, a militant who channeledfunds to finance the suicide bombings in Jakarta in January 2016.

In October 2016, he took parts in a paramilitarytraining in Banten province.

The JAD group was behind a series of suicide strikesin Indonesia's second largest city of Surabaya and Riau province in May thatleft 32 dead and dozens injured.-VNA
