Indonesia establishes ASEAN Chairmanship’s National Committee
As part of Indonesia’s preparation for ASEAN 2023 Chairmanship, the country's President Joko Widodo has established the ASEAN Chairmanship’s National Committee at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Jakarta (VNA) –♛ As part of Indonesia’s preparation for ASEAN 2023 Chairmanship, the country's President Joko Widodo has established the ASEAN Chairmanship’s National Committee at theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The committee is responsible for the events to be heldduring Indonesia's 2023 ASEAN Chair year including high-level conferences,ministerial-level and central bank governor meetings, senior official, workinggroup meetings, side events and other activities with following duties:
First, to plan, prepare, coordinate, and organise aseries of events, be it in material, technical, or logistic aspects to support the President as the ASEAN Chair in executing the duties and responsibilities.
Second, to draw up and stipulate a working plan and budget to prepare andorganise a series of events during Indonesia’s ASEAN 2023 Chairmanship.
Third, to prepare and organise the 42nd and 43rd ASEAN Summits andother meetings in the best possible way so the events can be organised safely,smoothly, and orderly.
Fourth, to have partnership with other countries, international and regionalorganisations, and other agencies/institutions to support the ASEAN Summits andother related summits. And
Fifth, to monitor, evaluate, and report the implementation of Indonesia’s ASEAN2023 Chairmanship.
The National Committee is led by the President and Vice President as directorswhose duties are to provide guidelines, suggestions, and considerations inconnection with Indonesia’s ASEAN 2023 Chairma꧟nship to the National Committee.
In carrying out the duties, the directors will beassisted by the person in charge in each sector as well as the assistance andpartnership team. There are eight persons in charge, including the CoordinatingMinister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs as the person in charge forASEAN Political- Security Community (APSC); theCoordinating Minister for EconomicAffairs as the person in charge for ASEAN Economic Community (AEC); the CoordinatingMinister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs as the person in charge forASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC); the Minister of Foreign Affairs as theperson in charge for general affairs/ASEAN National Secretariat; the Minister ofCommunication and Informatics as the person in charge for Communication, Media,and Public Relations; the Minister of State Secretary as the person in charge forthe Organisation of the Summit and Logistics, Minister of State-ownedEnterprises as the person in charge for side events,; and theCommander of theIndonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) as the person in charge for securityaffairs. The working period of the national committee starts as of the date of theenactment of the presidential decree until December 31, 2023./.
