Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia always attaches importance to itscooperation with other ASEAN member countries and will work with them to boostthe bloc’s development, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

Speaking at a seminar themed “Geo-political and Geo-economicShift in Indo-Pacific Region and Indonesian Foreign Policy” on December 18,Marsudi stated that over the past 50 years, ASEAN proves to be one of the mostsuccessful multilateral organisations.

In the next five decades, member states should cooperatemore closely to not only care for people’s lives but also ensure socialwelfare-related issues, she suggested.

In the economic affairs, many delegates agreed that theglobal economy is moving from west to east, which results in stronger economiccooperation and fiercer competition in the Indo-Pacific region.

The region’s development has brought about bothopportunities and challenges for countries in the region.

The seminar was organised in Jakarta by the Adam Malikcentre and the Indonesian Council on World Affairs.-VNA
