Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo on November 1highlighted the importance to synchronise policies related to climate changebetween developed and developing countries.
“All of us, including developed countries, must show moreconcrete steps in terms of climate control, especially in terms of fundingsupport for developing countries in making energy transitions from fossil fuelsto renewable energy,” Widodo told a CEOs Forum meeting in Glasgow, Scotland.
He expects adaptation funding of 100 billion USD fromdeveloped countries to be met immediately in order to accelerate efforts todeal with climate change.
According to him, in recent years, Indonesia has shown concrete steps in termsof climate control. The country’s current deforestation rate is the lowest for20 years, the rate of forest fires is reduced by 82 percent. Indonesia willalso restore 64 thousand hectares of mangrove land. This is very importantbecause mangroves store 3-4 times more carbon than peatlands/.
