Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana urged regional governments to optimise the resources they possess to improve integrated public 𓆏transportation servic𓆏es to meet people's needs effectively and efficiently.
The official said that developing public transport services is a national key programme to reduce traffic congestion and save national and people's resources. He underlined the importance of collaboration between the central and regional governments to improve the quality of public transport services, elaborating that it encompasses planning, coordination and budgeting to realise affordable transport services.
Suntana noted that strategy and innovation are deemed necessary in managing regional revenue, including tax, regional levy, and other funds related to the transport sector.
In line with Government Regulation No. 35 of 2023, regional governments can use 10% of revenue from motor vehicle tax for public transport development. However, the funds must be utilised effectively and align with the government's economic and social development programmes, he said./.
