Indonesia boosts air-force strength

Indonesia on February 13 received a batch of attack fighter jets from the Republic of Korea (RoK), as part of its programme to reinforce its air-force capacity.

Present at the handover ceremony wereIndonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Defense Minister PurnomoYusgiantoro and army, naval and air-force commanders.

Thebatch included 16 T-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets worth 400 million USD.They will be deployed at the Iswahyudi airbase in Madiun, East Java toreplace the current fleet of Hawk Mk 53 trainer planes.

Underthe jet purchase contract signed between the Indonesian Air Force andthe Korea Aerospace Industries in May 2011, both sides will alsomanufacture this kind of jet together.

In the foreseeablefuture, these fourth-generation fighter jets will be tailored fortraining, then equipped with radars and advanced weapons to perform allrequired tasks, towards realising Indonesia’s strategy ensuring itsnational defence power until 2025.-VND

Thai Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Vuttikrai Leewiraphan Thailand's formal proposal will be substantial enough for the US to consider further detailed negotiations.
