Jakarta (VNA) –
The Indonesian governmenthas assured a sufficient supply of staple foods during the Ramadan festivemonth of Muslims from May 6 to June 3.

Consumer demand in Indonesia, the world’s mostpopulous Muslim country, usually picks up during the event, often triggeringconcerns over inflation.

Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasutionsaid relevant agencies have prepared adequate staple foods to meet the risingdemand. 

Basically, the price of most foods remainsunchanged, he said, adding that rice stocks have been supported by the recentharvest.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has grantedlicences to eight companies to import 115,000 tonnes of garlic at lower pricesto meet the domestic demand and stablise prices.

It is also coordinating with the Ministry ofAgriculture and food producers and processors to conduct all necessary measuresto control prices during the festive month.

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals said it willensure an adequate supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on the occasion,especially prioritising areas recently affected by natural disasters.-VNA
