Imperative issues should be under parliament’s supervision: deputies

Hanoi (VNA) – Most of the National Assembly (NA) deput🌊ies at the plenary session on the morning of July 25 agreed that in 2017, the parliament should focus its supervision on🅰 pressing issues that are of great interest and have major impact on society and the economy.
The discussion on the NA’s proposed supervision programme for 2017 was part of the ongoing first session of the 14th parliament in Hanoi.
According to the proposal, supervision should cover lawmaking-related problems which do not coincide with the matters already supervised by the NA and its Standing Committee over the last three to five years.
The proposal suggested there should be two topics under supervision of the NA, the NA Standing Committee, and the NA Council for Ethic Affairs apiece next year. Meanwhile, the NA committees will supervise one or two topics. Outcomes will be reported to the NA Standing Committee and the deputies.
At the plenary session, the Standing Committee proposed four topics to the NA for selection.
Many deputies asked the NA to supervise the implementation of policies and laws on food safety between 2011 and 2016. Others requested stronger supervision of law enforcement, and guidance for the implementation of the Constitution, law and the NA’s resolutions.
Some lawmakers proposed supervision over the marine environment, traffic safety, and domestic and foreign investment.
NA Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty said based on opinions raised at the plenum, the NA Secretary General will garner the deputies’ written opinions to select topics for supervision in 2017.-VNA
The majority of deputies at the 14th National Assembly have shown their strong confidence in newly-elected NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, who won the July 22 election with 98 percent of votes.
