Quang Nam (VNA) – The Cau (Bridge) Pagoda, a historic landmark in the ancient town of Hoi An, a UNESCO-recognised heritage in the central province of Quang Nam, has reopened to visitors following a 19-month closure for restoration.

An inauguration ceremony was held by the municipal People's Committee on August 3 as part of the 20th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange Programme.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the Hoi An city People's Committee, highlighted that this is the first time a restoration project of this site has been conducted in an open, accessible manner, allowing residents and visitors to observe the entire process.

Despite preservation efforts by various generations, the nearly 400-year-old wooden structure has suffered severe deterioration due to weather and time, necessitating prompt restoration.

The project commenced on December 28, 2022, with a budget of over 20 billion VND (793,000 USD), handling its roof, wooden framework, foundation, and decorative elements, with its structure kept stable and durable.

The intricate architectural details, such as the curved roof edges, railings, and decorative patterns, have been carefully maintained to reflect the original design.

The project not only revitalises this historical site but also contributes to the cultural heritage of Hoi An, ensuring that this landmark remains a vibrant part of the city.

Hoi An was once a busy international trading port, including architectural heritage dating back hundreds of years. It was recognised by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site in 1999.

ܫ The ancient city has been named at No 1 place in the Top Best-Value Destination in the World in 2024 by The Post Office UK./.
