Ho Chi Minh City raises nearly 40 bln VND for the poor

The Ho Chi Minh City chapter of Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and Ho Chi Minh City Television raised a total of nearly 40 billion VND (1.73 million USD) in support of “For the Poor” Fund during a music show on October 18.

HCM City (VNA) –The Ho Chi Minh City chapter of Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and Ho Chi MinhCity Television raised a total of nearly 40 billion VND (1.73 million USD) in supportof “For the Poor” Fund during a music show on October 18. 

The event, the 18th of its kind, was in responseto the Month for the Poor (October 17 – November 18, 2018) to contribute tosustainable poverty reduction in many dimensions between now and 2020. 

Speaking at the event, Chairwoman of the municipalVFF chapter To Thi Bich Chau said the municipal Party Committee and authoritiesalways pay attention to local lives, especially the poor, low-income workersand those without stable jobs. 

She said the best way to reduce poverty isgenerating more jobs and creating a skilled workforce base. 

Over the past 18 years, the municipal VFFchapter and its members at all levels have raised more than 1.7 trillion VND insupport of poor and near-poor households and orphan children. 

They built about 29,000 gratitude houses,repaired over 15,400 others, and presented more than 43,500 scholarships and10,000 vehicles to poor children.-VNA
