HCM City (VNA) – Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi MinhCity’s Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan hosted a reception for visiting RussianForeign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 25.
Welcoming theminister, Nhan said that Lavrov’s presence at the conference themed“International cooperation in a changing world” held in the city is significantin the context that the two countries are preparing for the Vietnam Year in Russiaand the Russia Year in Vietnam to mark the 25th anniversary of thetreaty on basic principles for the Vietnam-Russia friendship this year and the70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2020.
The official notedthat the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership is developingstrongly in numerous fields. At the local level, Russia is one of the mostimportant economic partners of Ho Chi Minh City, he stated, adding that thecity has signed cooperation agreements with different localities of Russia.
Lavrov showed hisdelight at developments in bilateral relations, reflected through regulardelegation exchanges and close cooperation in numerous fields ranging fromeconomics, culture, tourism and education to youths’ exchanges.
He appreciated Ho ChiMinh City’s efforts to boost ties with Russian localities, particularly SaintPetersburg. He added that the two cities hold much potential to fostercollaboration in various aspects.
The Russian ministersaid he believes that the relations between the two countries, and between HoChi Minh City and Russian localities, will grow further in the time to come.-VNA
Russia is willing to assist Vietnam in developing its e-government via free-of-charge consultancy, technology transfer, and training of experts, said a Russian official.
