Heavy fines for passengers breaking food safety rules: Vietnam Airlines

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has warned that passengers need to be aware of food safety regulations in China’s Taiwan, Japan and Australia in the wake of increasing disease outbreaks before carrying food into those places.

Hanoi (VNA) – The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlineshas warned that passengers need to be aware of food safety regulations inChina’s Taiwan, Japan and Australia in the wake of increasing disease outbreaksbefore carrying food into those places.

Accordingly, the fine for passengers bringing meat and meat products to Taiwan withoutdeclaring ranges from 10,000 TWD to 1 million TWD (324-32,424 USD).

In Japan, if passengers fail to show quarantine certificates for their freshand processed foods, they will face three years in jail or a fine of up to 1million JPY (8,900 USD).


Meanwhile, they must declare all risky items such as food madefrom plant or animal ingredients if they want to get entry into Australia orelse they will face a hefty fine of 420,000 AUD (297,200 USD).

Besides handing out leaflets to inform its passengers at check-in counters forflights from Vietnam, the carrier has shown videos on flights to Taiwan, Japanand Australia as well as arranged staff to raise awareness of the public onthis issue.-VNA
