HCM City wants to step up ties with US partners: municipal leader
Ho Chi Minh City wishes to intensify relations with its US partners in many spheres, including trade, investment, personnel training, smart city management and high-tech, said Secretary of the municipal Party’s Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Washington DC (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City wishesto intensify relations with its US partners in many spheres, including trade,investment, personnel training, smart city management and high-tech, saidSecretary of the municipal Party’s Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.
Nhan told US guests at a reception held at the Vietnamese Embassy in the US onDecember 15 that HCM City will continue to create optimal conditions for USpartners.
He took the occasion to underline strong developments of the Vietnam-UScomprehensive partnership in 2017, especially the visit to the US by PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in May 2017 and the Vietnam visit by President DonaldTrump in November the same year.
US Principal DeputyAssistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs JenniferZimdahl Galt congratulated Vietnam on its successful organisation of theAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting and President Trump’svisit, which, she said, has helped elevate the bilateral relationship to newhigh, and enhance the two countries’ cooperation in many realms like nationaldefence, regional security challenge response, trade-investment, post-warconsequence settlement and people-to-people exchange,
She said HCM City is expected to contribute to exchanges and sharing ofexperience between Vietnam and the US for the training of Vietnamese younggenerations, as the southern metropolis houses a large number of US businessesand Fulbright University Vietnam, the first US university in the country.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the US on November 29 celebrated a fruitful year of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership and the success of the APEC Year 2017.
Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan has called on the US to facilitate cooperation between the city and US partners to establish a start-up ecosystem, promote innovation, and develop smart city project and innovation centre in District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc district.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
