HCM City to host Cotton Day 2017 for first time

Hanoi (VNA) –
The Cotton Day 2017, the first of its kind in Vietnam, will takeplace in Ho Chi Minh City on September 12.

The event willbe jointly organised by the Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association (VCOSA),the Vietnam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS) and the US Cotton CouncilInternational (CCI) to connect Vietnamese firms in the industry for sustainablepartnership and development.

The Cotton Day2017 will include a seminar and a fashion show. The seminar is set to discussVietnam-US relations, Vietnam’s garment-textile industry and impacts from theUS trade policy, and purchase trends.

The Cotton Dayis one of CCI’s biggest events in Asia. The event was initiated in Japan in the1990s and has been held in the Republic of Korea, China, Thailand, andBangladesh.

According toVITAS, despite challenges facing Vietnam’s garment and textile sector,including pressure from anti-dumping tax on fibre in Turkey and India, thesector still earned 19.8 billion USD from exports in the first eight months of2017, up 9.9 percent year on year.-VNA
