HCM City to build 30km elevated road in 2017

HCMCity (VNA) – Construction of HCM City’s elevated road No.5 linkingHanoi Highway in Thu Duc district with the Tan Tao – Cho Dem junction in BinhTan district will begin next year.

Itwill run above the length of National Highway 1A between the two points,passing through District 12 and Binh Chanh district

TheDepartment of Transport said the 30.4km road would be 17.5 metres wide and havefour lanes.

Itwill pass through Thu Duc district, District 12, Binh Chanh district and Binh Tandistrict.

Theroad will cost 17 trillion VND (772 million USD) and be built in BOT (build –operate – transfer) mode.

Eachof its two phases will take two years, with work on the second starting in2020.

Ultimately,the city plans to build five elevated roads with a total length of more than70km to ease traffic jams in the downtown area.

Meanwhile,the city People’s Council has given the green light to the construction of theNguyen Khooi Bridge over the Te Canal linking Districts 7 and 4, according tothe city’s Urban Transport Management Authority No.4.

The346m long, 22.5m wide bridge from D1 Street in District 7 to Ben Van Don Streetin District 4 will be the second over the canal.

Construction,which will cost 1.25 trillion VND (57 million USD), will start next year andtake 18 months.-VNA
